The Science of Micro-Channeling & Collagen Induction

Skin needling—also known as microneedling—is a minimally invasive treatment that creates controlled microchannels within the skin. This activates the skin’s natural repair response and supports the production and remodelling of collagen and elastin.

As the skin renews, gradual improvements may be seen in texture, fine lines, enlarged pores and the appearance of selected scars. Pigmentation concerns require individual assessment, as treatment suitability and response can vary.

Consultation

Your consultation includes a review of your skin concerns, medical history, medications, recent procedures and treatment goals. Your skin is assessed to determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Dermapen 4 settings and treatment depth are selected according to your skin, treatment area and individual treatment plan. Suitable products may be applied according to the chosen protocol.

Aftercare

You will receive personalised aftercare instructions and guidance on suitable skincare while your skin recovers. Progress can be reviewed before further treatment.

Redness, warmth, tightness, dryness, sensitivity or mild swelling may occur after treatment. Recovery varies with treatment depth, area and individual response, and may take several days. Follow your personalised aftercare and avoid unnecessary heat, heavy exercise and direct UV exposure while the skin is recovering.

Skin improvements occur gradually as renewal and collagen remodelling develop. Some clients notice changes in texture after an initial treatment, with further improvement over the following weeks. A course of approximately three treatments may be recommended, depending on your skin and goals.

Follow the preparation instructions provided by the clinic. Tell us about medications, supplements, allergies, cold-sore history, active acne or infection, recent sun exposure and recent cosmetic procedures. Avoid prescribed skincare or medication only when advised by the relevant clinician, and arrive with clean, makeup-free skin where possible.

Sensitive skin does not automatically exclude treatment, but suitability depends on the condition of the skin barrier and any active inflammation or underlying skin condition. Your skin and medical history will be assessed before treatment, and treatment may be postponed where appropriate.

Avoid picking or exfoliating the treated skin. Temporarily avoid active skincare, makeup, excessive heat, heavy exercise, swimming and direct sun exposure as advised. Use only the recommended skincare and apply appropriate sun protection.

Treatment may be postponed if you have an active infection, cold sore, open wound, significant inflammatory skin flare, recent sunburn or another condition affecting safe healing. Recent procedures and certain medications may also affect timing, so these must be discussed during consultation.
